Follow the selected product guidance
Cleaning, drying and finish application depend on the lumber and coating. Ask for the product details and recommended care instructions at handover. Do not assume every new wood fence should be coated immediately or on the same schedule.
Watch connections and clearance
Check visually for loose components, movement and vegetation restricting access. Keep soil and debris from accumulating where they obscure the condition of wood and hardware. Avoid aggressive cleaning methods that are not supported by the product guidance.
Address small changes thoughtfully
A damaged board may be replaceable, but matching a weathered finish can be difficult. Gate dragging or a leaning run can involve structural supports rather than surface care. Describe the symptoms before selecting a repair.
Keep a useful record
Save material specifications, finish information and any written warranty. Photographs over time can help explain changes. Maintenance does not eliminate all weathering, and no fixed lifespan is promised for an unspecified fence or site.
