Describe when the problem occurs
Tell us whether the gate drags throughout its swing, catches only at one point or no longer lines up when closed. Note recent impact, storms or changes in nearby ground level. Photographs are helpful, but avoid lifting or forcing a gate that feels unstable.
Check supports before adjustment
Loose hardware can sometimes be addressed locally. A moving post or distorted frame may require broader work before alignment can be restored. A proposal should distinguish adjustments from replacement of hinges, latch, frame or posts.
Consider matching and compatibility
Existing hardware may be discontinued or unsuitable for a heavier gate. Ask whether the replacement can fit the current frame and whether visible material differences will remain. For double gates, assess both leaves and their stops together.
Confirm the completion checks
Review the full opening range, clearances, latch engagement and any required closing action after work. Pool gates and automated gates should not be treated as ordinary hardware repairs; disclose their purpose at the beginning so the correct scope can be confirmed.
