Measure the usable opening
A nominal gate width is not always the unobstructed passage available once posts and hardware are installed. Describe the mower, cart or other equipment that needs access. Allow for the approach angle, not just the width of the equipment itself.
Account for slope and swing
A gate can clear the ground when closed but bind as it opens across a rising driveway or lawn. Review the full arc and decide how leaves will be held safely when open. Heavy or unusually wide gates may need a more specialized support design.
Coordinate hardware and purpose
Latch position, hinges, stops and locking needs should match the use. A pool-barrier gate requires additional attention to applicable self-closing and latching requirements. Do not substitute ordinary yard hardware without confirming the complete barrier design.
