Specify more than the height
A chain-link quote should identify mesh size, wire specification, framework, finish and gate details. Galvanized and coated systems have different appearances; confirm whether the finish applies to both fabric and framework. Pictures alone are not a complete specification.
Set the containment goal
Think about pets, children, equipment or property access before selecting the layout. Bottom clearance, connections and gate openings deserve attention. Climbing, jumping and digging behavior can require a different design; no basic fence should be described as escape-proof.
Treat privacy additions as a design change
Slats or screening alter appearance and exposure. Do not assume an existing framework can accept additional screening without review. Ask whether the proposed system is appropriate for the site and the added load, especially along exposed runs.
Define access and replacement work
Gate width should reflect the equipment that must pass through it. For replacement, identify removal of fabric, posts and old footings, plus cleanup and any restoration. Final layout should allow necessary maintenance access without blocking an easement or drainage route.
