Match the quantities and components
Compare length, height, material, posts, rails, finish and gate count. Ask for clear gate openings and hardware details. Two quotes with the same material label can describe very different systems.
Find exclusions and allowances
Check removal, disposal, clearing, utility coordination, approvals and restoration. Ask how unknown ground conditions or damaged retained components will be handled. A low initial number with undefined extras is difficult to compare with a complete scope.
Review responsibilities and terms
Confirm the contracting party, current credentials appropriate to the work, insurance information, payment schedule and any written warranty terms. Do not rely on a website badge or verbal promise in place of project documents.
Choose on scope and communication
A useful proposal answers what will be installed, what remains, how changes are approved and what completion looks like. Ask for clarification before authorizing work. Keep the final version with your layout and approvals.
